Welcome to The Stitchery! My name is Jennifer and I have a passion for yarn and crafty things. As a child I was surrounded by grandmothers who knit and who tried to teach me how to knit. Despite their best efforts, their training and attempts to teach me did not pan out until I was much older and then I still didn’t love knitting as much as they did. Although I know how to knit, my preferred method is crocheting and you will typically find me with a crochet project bag coming with me everywhere I go.

 

After the birth of our third child, I needed something to do that was just for me and that was when I came across a Crochet along featuring yarn from Scheepjes. This started my love (obsession?) with Scheepjes yarn, their Crochet alongs (CAL), knit alongs (KAL) and now their choose a path of Crochet or Knit along (CKAL). I look forward to their annual CAL pattern like a child looks forward to their birthday every year.

 

So, why Scheepjes? Why this yarn?

First, the quality. This company was founded in 1855. Their yarn is made of quality ingredients using responsible dyeing methods and production and the products they design are inspiring. Second, they stand behind their brand. If there is an issue with their yarn, they are willing to fix it. Third, the amount of designers (part of their design collective) that use the yarn and design around the yarn. Fourth? It reminds me of my roots and my grandmothers who tried to teach me yarn arts. What started as a hobby has become an obsession that is satisfied every year by entering items into our local fair – the Markham Fair. For the past decade I have been entering many of the items featured on the “Handmade Finished Items” page into the Fair and every year I have come home with a first place ribbon.
